We were greeted by rare sunshine and a superficially clean beach, which raised hopes that we might just get to go rockpooling instead. But, after Orlagh delivered a short talk on the effects of litter on the marine environment, we discovered a surprising amount of litter on the strandline; enough to keep us occupied for a couple of hours and fill 15 black sacks... all this from a “clean” beach!.
Beach Clean at Glenarm
On Friday 6th of May the Living Seas Team joined Glenarm Wildlife Group, local residents, the Glens Landscape Partnership Scheme and Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust for a beach clean at Glenarm Strand.
The haul included a single wellyboot, dozens of strange plastic coils and an election poster from a prospective MLA who will remain anonymous.
The day was one more small victory for the enhancement of our coastline, and it would not have been possible without the hard work of local volunteers.
